[linux] ./shoes --manual initial display scrambled

Description

Under linux (ubuntu 7.10 GG), the initial display from

..shoes/dist$ ./shoes --manual

appears scrambled/corrupted. No background image, no header bar/image, line wraps are wrong. Clicking on the 'Built-in' link and then mousing into the main area of the display generates a correct presentation. (But clicking on the 'App' link does not have the same effect.)

Do you want a screengrab, or a debug trace?

I see this behaviour with Curious(r396) and with today's Trunk r408.

This is the first time I've built Shoes for linux - it might be that I am exposing some flaw in the build toolchain? Or something odd in the way I have built my system. But most of the scripts in /samples run correctly, so I don't think it's that.

On Windows, with the corresponding releases, C:\> shoes --manual seems to work as expected.

I didn't catch this since I use dwm which resizes windows to fill a certain tile space. Using the standard gnome login I encountered this, though. The slot just needed to be sized after creation. Thanks once again, DeeJay?.
